Overview of St. Thomas
Here is some basic information that will hopefully give you a brief overview
of what we do and what is important at St. Thomas:
Growing in Faith

The Center brings Catholic speakers each semester.
- Let's Talk
Occasional discussions of timely topics.
- Catholic Faith classes
Classes on Catholic teachings are offered.
- Grow in Faith
- Antioch weekend each semester
A time to get away from the books and share your faith with other
Catholic students.
- Emmaus retreat each spring
An overnight retreat to help you grow.
- Faith-sharing groups
Small groups of students meet regularly to discuss how faith affects
their daily lives.
- Priesthood & religious vocation discernment group meets
regularly.
Serving Others
- Service Projects
The student service committee offers opportunities to help those in need,
including:
- meals at the local homeless shelter
- visits to the elderly
- games with handicapped citizens
- Service Trips are planned:
- Des Moines -- each semester
- El Salvador -- Christmas break
- Chicago & Appalachia -- spring break
- Justice and Pro-Life activities are sponsored by the parish Charity,
Justice, & Peace Commission.
- Serving at St. Thomas
- Liturgical Ministries
Students are eucharistic ministers, musicians, lectors, sacristans, and
greeters at our Masses. They also take communion to the sick and serve
on liturgy planning and other committees.
- Share Your Faith
- Sponsors for new Catholics
Each year students sponsor those joining the church through the
Christian Initiation of Adults
- Religious education teachers
Students help teach religion to the children and youth of the
parish
Meeting Other Students
- Social Events
The Catholic Student Community plans events for other students throughout
the year, including:
- Intramural teams
- Movie nights
- Ice skating
- Hay rack ride
- Dances
- Sunday Night Suppers
Home-style meals, 5:30 pm, Sunday nights once a month.
- Library & Lounge
Need a quiet place to study -- or a comfortable place to hang out? We have
a library and lounge open from 8:00 am to midnight.
